Restoring Wolverines to Colorado

A community conversation on wolverines, ecology, and coexistence!

Rocky Mountain Wild is excited to help share an upcoming community webinar featuring experts working on wolverine restoration in Colorado. This is a chance to hear directly from partners in the field and get clear, science-grounded information on what reintroduction means for our state and our communities.

Colorado State University and Defenders of Wildlife are working to inform communities about the reintroduction of wolverines. This reintroduction was approved in May 2024 through the Restoration of Wolverines Act (sponsored by Senators Perry Will and Dylan Roberts), and this webinar is part of making sure communities have the latest updates and information.

Date/Time: Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 6:00 PM Mountain Time

Hosted by: Wild Connections, Defenders of Wildlife, and Colorado State University, The Center for Human Carnivore Coexistence

What to expect: A conversation on wolverine ecology, how and why they are being restored to Colorado, and what it means for Colorado.

127th Distinguished Research Lecture:

Dan Doak (Environmental Studies)

Saving Species with Science: 30 Years of Conservation Setbacks & Successes

When: Tuesday, February 17 @ 4–5 p.m.
Where: Chancellor's Hall & Auditorium,

Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE)

About the lecture

Over his career, Professor Dan Doak (Environmental Studies) and his collaborators have worked with endangered species worldwide—from sea otters and spotted owls to gorgonian corals and alpine plants—asking a simple but urgent question: What can we do that will actually help species survive?

In this talk, Professor Doak shares three stories showing how conservation science works in the real world, where ecological research meets human values, policies and tough choices. Through the California condor, a rare Rocky Mountain wildflower and the Island fox, he explores how our understanding of extinction risk has improved even as challenges facing wildlife mount.

A reception will follow the lecture from 5-6 p.m.
