Featured Speaker:
Brenda Lee is the founder and Executive Director of the Colorado Bear Coalition, where she leads statewide efforts to reduce human-bear conflict and the lethal management of black bears in Colorado.
Brenda’s bear work began in 2012 when she founded the Boulder Bear Coalition, leading efforts to require bear-resistant trash carts and reduce attractants in Boulder. With a background in applied mathematics and family systems therapy, she brings a unique combination of analytical rigor and deep empathy to wildlife advocacy.
At the heart of CBC’s work is the belief that conflict is best addressed before it begins. Brenda empowers communities to implement proactive strategies that prevent bears from becoming habituated, working alongside local and state officials, municipalities, businesses, and community partners. Her innovative efforts have included co-founding a community fruit rescue program and partnering with Parks and Open Space to create natural food buffer zones.
What began as grassroots work in Boulder has grown into a statewide coalition addressing policy, science, and community education to help keep Colorado’s bears wild.
