Wild Aware is always looking for positive volunteers, community engagement, and financial support.

Engage with us today by filling out the form below!

  • Engage in year-round opportunities

    Participate with no set meetings and flexible involvement

    Collaborate directly with the Executive Director and Board of Directors as needs arise

    Get involved by:

    • Assisting with legal review and contract support

    • Supporting basic accounting and financial organization

    • Helping with administrative and organizational tasks

    • Exploring potential opportunities for Board of Directors involvement

  • Participate in a program running approximately May–October (weather dependent)

    Join the BWW volunteer roster and receive project updates as they are scheduled

    Work on projects across private property and parks/open spaces

    For Property Owners:

    • Apply to have barbed wire removed – our team will contact you to discuss the project

    • Please sign a required Property Waiver

    For Volunteers:

    • Please complete required participant waiver (Adult or Minor)

    Get involved by:

    • Joining removal events when dates and locations are announced

    • Training to become a Crew Leader

    • Supporting team leaders with outreach, marketing, and logistics

  • Meet quarterly

    Gather at either a volunteer’s home or the Barn at Timbervale in central Evergreen

    Share potluck-style meals or snacks

    Explore a variety of topics (examples: book, film, guest speaker, or discussion)

    Engage in deeper, action-based advocacy, if interested

    Support spring and fall social media campaigns (April & September)

    Get involved by:

    • Attending quarterly gatherings

    • Helping plan upcoming meetings and topics

    • Hosting a future Bear Den gathering

    • Assisting with social media content creation

    • Editing and updating website content

    • Creating and dispersing bear infographics

  • Engage with flexible involvement

    Participate in meetings as needed

    Get involved by:

    • Identifying and developing new outreach opportunities in schools and the community

    • Building relationships with school leaders, teachers, and community partners

    • Supporting and delivering presentations through the Speaker’s Bureau

    • Creating and refining engaging, age-appropriate educational content

    • Presenting programs in schools and community settings

    • Assisting with outreach campaigns (e.g., Poison Free Evergreen, fencing modifications, bear education)

    • Researching and developing resources for the public and Wild Aware’s website

    • Identifying and sharing valuable resources, tools, and educational content

    • Staying current on wildlife information from CPW and other trusted sources

    • Discovering relevant podcasts and new learning opportunities to share

    • Evaluating and communicating potential opportunities with leadership

    • Collaborating with the Events Team on fundraising initiatives

    • Working with the Board to prioritize funding needs and projects

    • Supporting promotion efforts with marketing, social media, and design teams

    • Tracking and updating donor and sponsor information

  • Promote and publicize Wild Aware programs, events, and campaigns across digital and print platforms

    Skills & Interests (helpful but not required):

    • Writing and content development

    • Familiarity with Squarespace, Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor

    • Experience with Canva

    • Awareness of current digital, marketing, and design trends

    Get involved by:

    • Creating and scheduling social media content

    • Designing flyers, ads, graphics, and promotional materials

    • Writing and editing content for the website, newsletters, and other publications

    • Updating and improving website content and layout (Squarespace)

    • Promoting events and programs through coordinated marketing efforts

    • Developing relationships with media and community partners

    • Assisting with newsletter production

    • Organizing and supporting merchandise programs

    • Distributing yard signs and other outreach materials

    • Analyzing social media performance and engagement metrics

    • Researching ideas and best practices from other organizations

    • Collaborating with program managers and team leaders on marketing and advertising needs

    • Supporting and mentoring interns working on content and design

  • Wildlife-Vehicle Collision (WVC) Reduction Initiative

    Help reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and improve habitat connectivity through research, education, and community engagement.

    Engage in meetings as needed and flexible, project-based involvement

    Maintain shared resources including reports, studies, and data

    Lead two annual awareness campaigns (June & November)

    Plan 1–2 public events each year

    Core Team – Get involved by:

    • Creating content for seasonal safety and awareness campaigns

    • Assisting with website updates and development

    • Monitoring and contributing to social media related to WVCs

    • Analyzing data (crash reports, roadkill reports, trends) and creating reports, charts, and visuals

    • Writing short articles for newsletters and publications

    • Organizing and maintaining shared program resources (Google Drive)

    Focus Areas Within Road Aware

    Wild Eyes (Driver Awareness & Innovation)
    Focus on increasing driver awareness through partnerships, technology, and education.

    Engage in project-based involvement and meetings as needed

    Choose a flexible time commitment based on your project interests

    Get involved by:

    • Creating and editing video and photo content

    • Researching wildlife-safe driving programs and emerging technologies (e.g., simulators, VR)

    • Collaborating with partner organizations (law enforcement, CDOT, schools, etc.)

    • Developing curriculum and identifying program audiences

    • Designing and maintaining website content

    • Creating marketing materials and campaigns

    • Maintaining project resources and files

    Field Studies (Wildlife Monitoring & Data Collection)
    Support on-the-ground research and documentation of wildlife movement and behavior.

    Work primarily independently, with flexibility

    Get involved by:

    • Capturing wildlife photos and videos

    • Managing and reviewing field camera footage

    • Tracking wildlife patterns and movement

    • Researching local elk herds and behavior

    • Creating visuals, data summaries, and insights from collected information

    • Brainstorming ways to engage the public in wildlife tracking efforts

    Yard Signs (Community Awareness)
    Expand public awareness through visible, community-based messaging.

    Get involved by:

    • Distributing and installing yard signs

    • Supporting outreach at farmers markets and community events

    • Engaging the public in conversations about wildlife-safe driving

  • Support the recruitment, engagement, and appreciation of Wild Aware volunteers

    Meet once a month, with additional opportunities as needed

    Get involved by:

    • Connecting with and responding to new volunteer inquiries

    • Helping onboard and guide new volunteers

    • Assisting with organization and tracking of volunteer information

    • Participating in and hosting volunteer coffees and gatherings

    • Planning and carrying out Volunteer Appreciation Week and recognition efforts

    • Supporting appreciation gifts and initiatives

    • Brainstorming ideas to strengthen volunteer engagement and retention

    • Training to become a Volunteer Coordinator

  • *This program is in collaboration with Evergreen Audubon and Denver Mountain Parks

    Help protect elk and support safe, respectful wildlife viewing during critical seasonal periods at Evergreen Lake.

    Engage in two seasonal programs:

    • Spring: Mid-May through late June

    • Fall: Mid-September through late October

    Receive training before each season to feel confident and prepared

    Sign up for weekend shifts (Friday evening through Sunday)

    Connect with experienced volunteers for optional one-on-one mentorship if you’re new

    Get involved by:

    • Monitoring and engaging with the public during Wildlife Watch shifts at Evergreen Lake

    • Sharing wildlife safety messaging and supporting positive human-wildlife interactions

    • Assisting with program promotion (social media, photos, flyers, and content creation)

    • Helping update and maintain the Wildlife Watch webpage
